Dr. Heekin is a total joint replacement specialist and founder of Heekin Orthopedic Specialists. The doctor, who was born and raised in Jacksonville, is a husband, father, entrepreneur, volunteer and graduate of one of the most prestigious schools in the country. He spoke with us in the print edition of Florida Doctor – North this month on a variety of topics. Here’s his take on giving back to the community and the hobbies he enjoys.
How are you giving back to the community?
I actively give back and provide for the orthopedic needs of my community through the St. Vincent’s Healthcare Foundation and the Arthritis Foundation. I also founded, oversee and contribute to the Heekin Institute for Orthopedic Research, a foundation created to monitor clinical outcomes and contribute to national research aimed at improving orthopedic care around the world.
In addition, I’m an Eagle Scout, and an enormous supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, as are the rest of the gentleman in the Heekin family.”
What are some hobbies you enjoy in your free time?
Anything related to water. I spend a great deal of time in the Florida Keys, where I enjoy snorkeling, diving and fishing.
